How to Boost Attendance at Tourism Events

Do you ever wonder how to create even more buzz around your social marketing?

Wonder no more!  Social marketing provides a wealth of simple, underutilized ways to market.  While many marketers rely solely on advertising let’s explore some underused secret gems to fill your tours and your DMO’s events.

Creating buzz and building ticket sales are essential whether you’re hosting a consumer event to promote your newest tour or looking to boost attendance at a concert or festival.  Let’s look at some buzz building tactics.

Facebook Events

#1 — Facebook Events is a powerful tool unused by so many.  By simply filling in a template you can create a marketing tool that can be used to invite individuals and as the basis for an ad.

After clicking “Create an event” on your business page you’ll be taken to a template and will insert all the details of your upcoming event; date, time, place, ticket options, and an outstanding photo to entice viewers.  You can even upload a video as the image depicting the event.

Tip:  make sure you have a website URL that leads people to more information or a ticket purchase opportunity.

Cover Images and Header Images

#2 – Cover Image

Remember back in the day when you spent time and money on window displays and posters?  Your cover images are like your storefront windows. A perfect (and underutilized) tool to showcase your tours, events and festivals.

Have you changed your cover images on your social sites lately? (Here’s a quick video how-to guide). How about changing cover images to match the themes of your social posts.  Using an editorial calendar to plan your weekly themes is key to a cohesive marketing plan and changing your cover images is another tool in your toolbox.  Here’s a sample editorial calendar you’re welcome to try out.

#3 – Header Image

Don’t forget about your Twitter header image, You-Tube, Google Plus and even LinkedIn.

While image sizes are different for each platform, here’s a cheat sheet to ensure the right image size for maximum impact.
