How did you start your Tourism Career? Did you develop an interest in this industry while you were in high school and then attend a college where you majored in Hospitality and Tourism, Hotel and Resort management or Recreational Studies? And then once you were out of college did you land a job that used your college training and coursework?
No? Me either.
I didn’t even realize that Tourism was an industry until I took a course at a community college as an adult. I fell in love with the idea of Tourism as a career and the rest is history. Where I am today I could not even have imagined 10 years ago. And for many of us, our lives in the next few years will be vastly different than they are today.
The Story of LEGO
I am working on a training webinar for a state Tourism Office and came across an animated video on the history of the ubiquitous LEGO. It is an amazing story of resilience in the face of disaster and defeat, and how a conversation, idea or circumstance can change everything. Take a few minutes to watch:
Today’s lesson?
When you think it might be over, it might just be evolving into your next best career. Those of you still working are having to take on additional responsibilities that might lead to new opportunities, like Oleg’s son Godfried.
My daughter is a Convention Sales Manager at a hotel and now also responsible for the Medical, Religious, Educational, Agricultural and Tradeshow markets in addition to her Association market. Talk about learning on the job!
Many of you who have lost your jobs have reached out to me to let me know you are happy in your new careers in healthcare, senior housing, real estate, insurance sales, and more. And these new careers don’t mean you won’t return to tourism at some point.
But like the history of LEGO shows us, what might seem like the end of one road can merely be a fork that leads us to something amazing!
How can I help you in November 2020?
DMOs/Tourism Organizations:
Are you looking for a way to provide value to your partners during this challenging time? Check out the Online Tourism Training Program with this link. I can help you provide monthly virtual training for you to offer to your partners/members.
Here’s a testimonial from Janet Kasic, Director of Circle Michigan: My company, Circle Michigan, recently contracted with Sally Davis Berry for her Online Tourism Training Program. I am grateful to have been able to offer these educational webinars to our membership. We had phenomenal feedback to the three webinars we participated in. And Sally made it so EASY!
My team will take care of registration, reminders, and even a post-webinar survey! Let me know what topics your partners need help with and we will develop impactful training. I am booked through the end of the year, but am booking new clients starting in January 2021. Prices start at just $995 for each training. Click here to email me and we can set up a time to talk!

Can I ask a Favor?
I am a goal setter and I want to have 2000 readers by the end of this year. Can you forward this email to two other tourism professionals you know? If you work at a DMO or Tourism Organization, I would love it if you would encourage your partners to sign up to receive my weekly posts. Thank you! Just click here to be added to the mailing list.
