I recently conducted a webinar for the Greater NYC Chapter of HSMAI. They were a great and lively group of Hospitality and Sales professionals who Zoomed in to learn about Time Management. One of the poll questions I asked the group was why they wanted to learn some Time Management skills. 39% of them said it was because they were working multiple roles in their job. This is a trend I am hearing from a lot of clients so I thought I would share information on a tool I use a lot- Loom.
Loom is helpful- and free!
Loom is a free software tool that you download onto your computer. Once it is installed, you can simply click the Loom icon and it will allow you to record whatever is showing on your computer. You can record just the computer view, the computer view with a video of you on the screen as well, or just you on the screen.
You simply click when you are ready to record and a 3-2-1 countdown will appear before you start. Once you are done, you simply hit Stop, and the video quickly ( and I mean quickly) creates a finished product with a link to share.
Multi-tasking and Stress
I know many of my readers have been called back to work and that jobs have changed dramatically since March. Here are some ways Loom can help you.
Save time
As it states on the Loom website: For every 10 seconds of video you record it is equivalent to 81 seconds of typing.
Are you having to take on a new process as part of your work? Record yourself undertaking the process. Then you can make the video part of your SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) manual. Or be like me- I do something once and then completely forget how I did it two months later. Having a quick video to watch reminds me and I don’t have to embarrass myself by asking again!
Make training easier
Training staff can be easier when you record videos that highlight steps in booking or updating websites. We are all having to take on new roles and Loom can help make it easier.
Record videos and send to travel trade
Whether you are working from home or heading back to an office, it might still be a while before we can meet in person. I suggest creating a short loom with your website and highlight some of the information available. Customize it for your top 5-8 tour operator clients and send it off.
For the operators that might need information on dining options, you could record a short video from that page. For those needing photos, you can record a customized video from the page where you store those. The bonus will be that you can do a bunch of those in one afternoon!
Are you a Tour Operator?
Keeping in touch with your customers and helping them get excited about traveling again can be done via Loom. How about recording short customized videos talking about trips you think they would like. If I received one of those from my favorite tour company, I would feel special and it would definitely make me think about getting back on a bus. I suggest doing that for your top 20% of clients.
Create a few at a time and send them out. Once you get in a rhythm it’s actually pretty easy. And don’t worry about how you look on camera. Just smile and hit record.
How can I help you in October 2020?
DMOs/Tourism Organizations:
Are you looking for a way to provide value to your partners during this challenging time? Check out the Online Tourism Training Program with this link. I can help you provide monthly virtual training for you to offer to your partners/members.
Katy Summers, Senior Manager of Education and Professional Development for SYTA wrote: My association worked with Sally to provide virtual education sessions over a three month period. The quality of sessions she provided exceeded our expectations! The feedback from our members was all positive and her sessions had the highest attendance and involvement out of all the virtual educations that we were hosting.
My team will take care of registration, reminders, and even a post-webinar survey! Let me know what topics your partners need help with and we will develop impactful training. I am booked through the end of the year, but am booking new clients starting in January 2021. Prices start at just $995 for each training. Click here to email me and we can set up a time to talk!
Looking to increase your Tourism knowledge and skills?
Then check out Tourism Pro Academy. (And check out my Loom welcome video there!) This platform is a one-stop-shop. You can check out free resources, courses and other ways to work with me. I am adding new offerings this month. Click here to see what’s available.
Donation to World Central Kitchen
I donate 10% of my quarterly profits to charity. My donation for the third quarter will go to World Central Kitchen, started by chef José Andrés. What started as an organization to provide chef-prepared meals in disaster relief situations has evolved into programs that include assistance with clean cookstoves initiative, culinary training programs, and social enterprise ventures that empower communities and strengthen economies. I am impressed with their involvement around the globe. Thanks to all of you who purchased my services or products between July and September. You helped to make the world a better place!
Can I ask a Favor?
I am a goal setter and I want to have 2000 readers by the end of this year. Can you forward this email to two other tourism professionals you know? If you work at a DMO or Tourism Organization, I would love it if you would encourage your partners to sign up to receive my weekly posts. Just click here to be added to the mailing list.
